Trailer Theft Information

Background

Pack 246 was formed almost 15 years ago, as a Cub Scout Pack we serve scouts in grades 1 (Tiger Cubs) through 5 (Webelos). Approximately 20 families are members of Pack 246.

The Pack trailer was donated by pack members some time before the year 2000, it's purpose was twofold:

1. It provided a storage enclosure for the various camping, activity & sports equipment the pack has accumulated over the years.
2. It is towed to campouts to transport the equipment listed above.

Pack 246 has a long and storied tradition of camping, unlike Boy Scout Troops, Cub Scout Packs typically cannot provide a camping program for it's members due to logistical challenges.

Twice a year pack families go camping, using the trailer to transport the communal cooking & camping gear.

Also every year there is district-wide event called "Camporee" for older "Webelos" members. Camporee is a "Boy Scout" event in which Webelos patrols from Cub Scout Packs are invited to participate. It involves a weekend of camping as well as a day of team-related activities and competition testing scout skills such as knot tying, first aid, disability awareness and others.

Description

The pack trailer was a white cargo trailer, about 12 feet long, 8 feet wide and 8 feet tall. It had a large ramp door at the rear and a smaller door on the right side. Inside it had shelves to hold smaller equipment & supplies while larger items were stored on the floor in the central area.

The equipment inside the trailer was acquired over several years, most of it was donated to the pack by current and former members of the pack.

Theft

On the morning of Wednesday, January 10th 2007 at about 3:15 a.m. a pickup truck drove onto the parking lot, the truck hooked up the trailer and towed it away.

The theft was discovered and reported to the LAPD on Tursday, January 12th by one of the pack leaders.

The theft was captured on video camera, while review of the footage is still ongoing we are able to determine the following about the pickup:

1. It is a 1997-2003 Ford F-150 4x4 Super cab
2. It is likely white or off white in color
3. It has a bed liner and a truck-bed toolbox

Situation

While we are hopeful that further review of the surveillance footage will eventually allow us to identify the thief, every day that passes reduces the likelihood that the trailer an/or it's contents will be recoverable.

Our annual spring campout is scheduled for the beginning of June, the district "Camporee" event is in April. Without the camping gear these events will have to be cancelled and the pack will no longer be able to include camping as part of its program.
