August 15th 2010 - The Cub Pack took a break from the valley heat by heading down to Malibu for a day at the beach. They had fun playing in the sand, and enjoyed dips in the brisk Pacific waters. Life Guard Phil at Station 4 gave the boys a quick primer on sand and swim safety. In between explaining the ways in which he trains for his job, and how he keeps an eye on the swimmers in his zone, he also helped answer questions about maneating sharks and jellyfish. Looks like this may not have been the first time he was talking to a bunch of overactive imaginations.
Following the talk with the lifeguard and the sand play, there was a sandcastle building contest. The scouts, siblings and guests, were divided into 4 teams. They were allowed one hour to build a sand castle. There were some very nice designs, and one of the teams even had to deal with their first castle being washed away by the rising tide.
Scouting reinforces the skills and values we want our sons to learn while they're having fun.
Being involved in Cub Scouting is fun, challenging, and rewarding. Leaders find that their experiences help them to become better parents.
